AKH Foundation purchases and renovates buildings to make community-oriented spaces where local service organizations can provide culturally sensitive support.
The Muslim community of the Seattle area has grown rapidly over the last 10 years. Many places of worship have arisen to serve us spiritually. But we still lack other places dedicated to meeting the community’s diverse needs.
AKF Foundation creates those spaces by securing facilities to host community life and house service providers for free or reduced rent. These buildings serve as social hubs with activities and events, while their tenants connect local Muslims with services and resources. Community needs include legal advocacy, housing assistance, mental health referrals, financial advising, and much more.
Bringing the community and those who support it together in the same space enhances community care, cohesion, vibrancy, and success.
AKH’s first facility is a 9,000-square-foot community and office facility located at 220 S 3rd Place in Renton, Washington. Known as the Renton Resource Center, it is occupied by tenants at low to no cost, including ICNARelief, Friends of Youth, and youth advocate John Houston. The facility is also utilized by several community and youth non profit organizations needing space for their programs.
AKH Foundation has grown organically from within Seattle’s Muslim community.
The foundation was founded in 2022 by three friends whose families emigrated from Pakistan 40+ years ago.
AKH Foundation is dedicated to transforming buildings into vibrant, community-oriented spaces. By purchasing and renovating properties, we provide local service organizations with the resources they need to deliver culturally sensitive support to the people who need it most. Our mission is to strengthen communities and make a lasting difference.
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, AKH accepts tax-deductible donations to support our work.
